Wedding Flowers

18 09 2010

I just loved the displays of fantastic OXFORDSHIRE GROWN flowers at the wedding last week at Sheepdrove Eco Conference Centre.

Provided by the brilliant Green and Gorgeous who also sell flowers at a few of their local farmers’ markets.

A new LEADER blog

26 08 2009

200-jasonball headcropLast week I created a new blog for the LEADER Fund in the North Wessex Downs AONB. Essentially this becomes the website for the Local Action Group – the people who manage the fund.

Since it’s important for the group to be able to self-manage the website, and update it frequently, I made the blog at WordPress. The content management system is simple. Plus, even with the free basic service provided by WordPress, the blog design system allows for improvements to ‘brand identity’ as that develops. For a small fee the design possibilities can be  expanded hugely.

I also secured the domain name www.northwessexleader.org.uk and forwarded the URL to the blog. This will be helpful for 3 reasons:

  • a simple web address is easier to remember
  • it adds a lot of potential to develop their website
  • the group can develop a 2-tier web presence in future

A sense of arrival

A straightforward blog facility can achieve much more than just raised awareness amongst their target market, the local community. This web presence will also boost the new organisation’s sense of progress and identity (earlier I mentioned branding, a good next step to examine) and it highlights the need to make a dedicated effort in marketing their campaign.

Even when you are ‘selling’ money, people need to know about it, recognise rapidly if it is relevant to them (or a friend!), and understand how to get it.

Free money for farmers and…

29 05 2009

Berkshire Young Farmers Show
Sunday 31 May
9am – 5pm
Newbury Showground

This weekend I’m at the Berkshire Young Farmers Show, trying to interest people in money! To grab people’s attention, I designed and printed this roll-up banner, which stands over 2 metres tall.

I’m on the Local Action Group for the North Wessex Downs LEADER FUND. A few farmers and I are in a sub-group to promote this new source of grants to people who work in the Land Management sector.

Plus, next Tuesday evening (2nd June) there is an official launch of the LEADER funding at Hungerford Town Hall, with 170 guests booked to attend. Then we await hundreds of applications for money – we hope!

Corporate clips to share and SELL

1 05 2009

www.poppyfield-gallery.com

I recently shot a film for Neals Yard Remedies at their launch of a new direct selling service, called NYR Home. I made them a 35-minute DVD, fully edited, which the business used for their international NYR Home marketing campaign.

It was obvious to me that they ought to make the most of the footage – so I created a few short films for them, now published on Youtube. The following clip is a neat history of the business.

The presentation is by company chairman, Peter Kindersley. That’s famous former publisher Peter D Kindersley, not pro photographer Peter J Kindersley, his nephew, who freelanced for the NYR event.

Don’t you have a marketing video?

It’s probably time you did. Leaflets, brochures, newspaper ads – they’re OK but most of them end up in a bin. (Even if they are beautifully designed and written.)

Websites are less throw-away and page links get passed on from person to person. Online videos take that transmissibility a step further, especially when they are linkable clips on places like YouTube, Myspace or Facebook. (And now Youtube’s Google-search is much improved.)

Videos have many advantages. Just think how effective TV is, and it’s because the media of video is so easy to absorb. Digital video is very flexible, and in a very short lead-time you can have a range of formats – DVD, mobile phone clips, mini movies on your website and in your powerpoint presentations. And when it’s a little outdated you can re-edit a fresh version.

And just look how easily the video clip conveys the ethics, heritage and brand for NYR. Imagine the impact you could make with a DVD or a web movie, showing your potential customers the quality of your products, customer service, the personality of your business.

Hire me to shoot you

This isn’t an epic TV series, it’s a fast way to get you promoted. Tell me your idea for a digital movie to market your business, and we can start planning it right away. Tell me what you want to get across and who you want to reach. I can cover the technical stuff, like High Definition, web embedding, and all that.

Fireworks wallpaper

16 11 2008

Here’s a photograph of fireworks against a black night sky which you can use this FREE for your computer screen’s desktop wallpaper. Click the image to see it full size, then ‘Right Click and Save As‘ to download. It’s sized 1024 x 768 pixels. © 2008 Jason Ball

This makes a very good screen background because it’s mainly black, so you can see everything on your desktop clearly. The best ‘wallpapers’ are a nice clean image, without too much detail. Some people like a tranquil setting, others prefer dramatic backdrop!

I went to a brillliant fireworks display at Lambourn Woodlands and managed to get a few really nice pictures like this. See them on my Zenfolio web gallery. Zenfolio is a great online gallery and you can buy my pictures there as prints – it’s the best option for anybody in the USA and Canada.

Photographers looking to sell – I’d recommend Zenfolio’s Premium package (only $100/year as I write) because it gives you the most flexible and adaptable gallery facility.

You’ll save tonnes of time because the Premium deal enables bespoke watermarks – and puts them onto your images to help protect your copyright. Having your pictures instantly watermarked means you don’t have spend hours doing it! When you make sales of printed goods through Zenfolio fulfillment partners, the service fee is taken only from the profit earned, which is fantastic.
